Senior Operational Risk Leader (Line 2)

About the role

ANZ is seeking an experienced operational risk professional to join its Line 2 Risk team. The role provides independent oversight, challenge and advice across a diverse portfolio of enabling functions, partnering with senior stakeholders to strengthen non‑financial risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent Line 2 oversight across complex enabling function activities, reviewing material risks, risk assessments and control design.
• Identify emerging risk themes, control weaknesses and systemic issues, escalating material concerns where appropriate.
• Review and challenge issues, incidents and events, including root‑cause analysis and the effectiveness of management actions.
• Monitor remediation programs, challenging delays, dependencies and execution risks.
• Prepare and review executive and committee reporting, ensuring clear risk positions and recommendations.
• Support governance processes, risk acceptances and decision‑making forums, applying sound risk judgement.

Required profile

• 7+ years' experience in operational risk, compliance, internal audit, risk management or related disciplines within financial services.
• Strong understanding of non‑financial risk frameworks, governance requirements and regulatory expectations.
• Demonstrated ability to provide constructive challenge and practical risk advice to senior stakeholders.
• Broad understanding of complex enterprise functions including governance, financial management, regulatory delivery, transformation, data and technology‑enabled processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing executive‑level reporting.
