Senior Legal Officer

About the role
The Senior Legal Officer provides expert legal counsel and representation for the Queensland Police Service. This role supports the Commissioner and senior executives with confidential advice on complex legal matters and ensures the Service’s interests are protected in courts and tribunals.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality, confidential legal advice to the Commissioner and senior executives on complex issues such as compensation, government and non‑government agreements, criminal matters, information disclosure, and police discipline.
- Represent the Queensland Police Service before courts and tribunals, handling appeals, coronial inquests, judicial reviews, discrimination cases, and discipline reviews.
- Advise operational police officers on substantive law and police powers related to investigations and operations.
- Uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in all legal activities.
Required profile
- Admission or eligibility for immediate admission as a barrister, solicitor or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
- Law degree from a recognised tertiary institution (or equivalent qualification) with a practising certificate valid for at least 12 months.
