Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel provides expert legal leadership across high‑value and high‑risk activities including commercial contracts, environment, construction, safety, employment, governance, and regulatory matters. You will advise senior leaders including the CEO and executive team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver strategic legal support for commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, and construction projects.
• Lead complex legal investigations, including Crime and Corruption Commission matters and Public Interest Disclosure applications.
• Manage external advisors to ensure high‑quality, fit‑for‑purpose support within budget.
• Coach and develop internal stakeholders to improve legal literacy and risk‑informed practices.
• Advise on corporate governance and the legal implications of organisational strategy.
• Contribute to policy design, operational transformation and business improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Significant post‑admission experience in private practice and/or in‑house, with a commercially minded approach.
• Proven capability delivering strategic legal advice across commercial, environmental, safety, regulatory and construction areas.
• Confidence navigating multi‑stakeholder environments, including public sector or utility settings.
• Collaborative, trusted advisor with the gravitas to influence senior decision‑makers.
• Strong sense of integrity, accountability and professional leadership.

Required skills

• Admission to practise in Queensland and eligibility for an unrestricted practising certificate.
