Senior Legal Counsel - Property

About the role

A major Australian energy and infrastructure company, central to the country's energy transition, is hiring a Senior Property Lawyer at 6-10+ years' PQE for its in-house legal team. The team consists of senior counsels who are mostly autonomous subject-matter specialists; this role manages the Property portfolio and its commercial transactions, and occasionally assists colleagues or the business on specific projects.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on a diverse portfolio of property and real estate matters, including development, acquisitions, disposals and complex leasing across three property portfolios: operational business property, non-operational assets (a circa $1bn commercial property portfolio) and new energy asset development (greenfield and brownfield)
• Provide strategic and commercial legal support for associated commercial and procurement transactions, focusing on property and real estate
• Work cross-functionally with commercial, engineering and procurement teams to deliver practical, solutions-oriented advice
• Manage external legal providers, including their budgets

Required profile

• 6-10+ years' post-qualification experience in a leading law firm and/or in-house environment
• Strong background in property and real estate transactions
• Experience managing a portfolio of complex matters and balancing competing priorities
• Ability to explain complex legal ideas simply and engage stakeholders across the business
• Positive, upbeat attitude and willingness to build good working relationships
• Experience on energy and infrastructure projects is especially welcomed
