Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Australian Payments Plus is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide commercially focused legal advice on complex and strategically significant matters. You will work closely with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to manage legal risk and support the company’s strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide authoritative legal advice on material matters, helping AP+ understand options and make sound decisions.
• Identify, assess and manage significant legal risks, communicating commercial implications and mitigation options to senior stakeholders.
• Lead complex negotiations and cross‑functional legal matters, coordinating internal teams and external advisers.
• Act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders, offering clear guidance and constructive challenge.
• Coach less‑experienced lawyers and improve legal processes through playbooks, precedents and data‑driven tools.

Required profile

• Law degree or equivalent qualification with a current New South Wales practising certificate.
• At least six years post‑qualification experience at a senior legal counsel level.
• Demonstrated ability to advise across multiple areas of law and independently manage complex matters.
• Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business needs.
