Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Danone is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its ANZ team in Sydney. In this strategic position you will act as a trusted advisor, supporting the full product lifecycle and enabling sustainable growth in a highly regulated FMCG environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pragmatic, risk‑based legal advice and translate complex legal issues into clear guidance for stakeholders across ANZ.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including sales, supply, procurement, retailer and tender contracts.
• Advise marketing, brand and regulatory teams on advertising, product claims, promotions, digital marketing, IP protection and competitive positioning.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and compliance risks; support implementation of Danone’s compliance framework, anti‑bribery, anti‑trust, data‑privacy and international trade sanctions policies.
• Act as Company Secretary and advise on environmental, sustainability and governance obligations, as well as emerging risks such as cybersecurity and digital compliance.
• Lead and mentor a Compliance Advisor, building legal and compliance capability across the organisation.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years post‑admission experience as a qualified lawyer.
• Current Australian practising certificate.
• Presently employed in a senior legal counsel or equivalent role.
