Senior Legal Counsel - Financial Regulatory Law

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join a fast‑growing wealth technology and investment platform in Sydney. The role sits in the legal team, reports to a Senior Legal Counsel and works closely with the General Counsel, providing product‑focused regulatory advice as new offerings are developed.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic, commercially‑focused advice on Australian financial services regulation, including the Corporations Act, AFSL requirements and ASIC guidance.
• Support the design, structuring and launch of new products, features and customer propositions, identifying regulatory considerations from the outset.
• Monitor regulatory change, assess its impact and advise senior stakeholders on practical solutions.
• Collaborate with Compliance and Risk on governance, legal risk and regulatory issues.
• Draft and review customer documentation, disclosures, product governance materials and financial promotions.
• Engage with regulators and external legal advisers as required.

Required profile

• Australian‑qualified lawyer with at least 7 years post‑qualification experience in financial services regulation, either in‑house or in private practice.
• Strong knowledge of the AFSL framework, Corporations Act and related ASIC guidance.
• Commercially minded and pragmatic, able to translate complex regulatory requirements into workable business solutions.
• Comfortable interacting directly with senior business stakeholders and product teams.
• Agile, curious and capable of solving complex problems in a fast‑moving environment.
