Senior In-House Legal Counsel – Financial Services

About the role

This senior position offers the chance to shape legal and compliance strategy for a fast‑growing financial services organisation. You will work closely with senior leaders to ensure the business meets all regulatory obligations while fostering a proactive compliance culture.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal and regulatory advice across general insurance and financial services operations.
• Support AFSL obligations, product governance and disclosure requirements, including drafting and reviewing Product Disclosure Statements, Target Market Determinations and Financial Services Guides.
• Partner with senior management to uplift governance standards and embed a strong compliance culture.
• Monitor regulatory developments, assess operational impacts and implement policy updates.
• Liaise with ASIC and other regulators on compliance, governance and breach matters.
• Support breach management, remediation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote ethical, transparent, customer‑focused outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with a current Australian practising certificate.
• Minimum 7 years post‑admission experience in financial services or insurance law.
• Strong understanding of AFSL obligations, breach reporting and ASIC guidance.
• Demonstrated experience drafting disclosure and regulatory documentation.
• Excellent communication, influencing and relationship‑building skills at senior levels.
• Ability to operate autonomously and deliver pragmatic, commercially sound advice.
