Senior Engineer – Traction Power Design

About the role

WSP is looking for a Senior Engineer to join its Rail team in Australia. You will design and coordinate traction power projects that shape city transport networks, working alongside industry‑recognised leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and coordinate traction power projects from business case through to AFC/IFC.
• Support complex jobs and assist clients throughout the asset lifecycle.
• Prepare tender proposals based on client requirements.
• Develop high‑voltage and low‑voltage earth grid designs.
• Produce and review technical reports, feasibility studies, option selection and protection studies.
• Liaise with clients and maintain strong relationships.
• Engage in AC/DC traction electrification design work.
• Contribute to substation design and site activities on traction electrification projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics or Power Engineering.
• Minimum six years of experience in detailed traction power design, drawing, reporting and calculations.
• Proven experience on Sydney Trains and/or Transport for NSW projects is highly valued.
• Ability to work autonomously and understand project scope.
• In‑depth knowledge of relevant IEC/EN/ASA/AS/AMB standards and industry guidelines.

Required skills

• High‑voltage and low‑voltage earth grid design.
• Traction power and HV supply design.
• Software: PSCAD, MATLAB, ETAP, DiaLux, Opentrak, OpenPowerNet (preferred).
• Substation design expertise.
• Familiarity with protection studies and feasibility analysis.
