Senior Engineer, Secondary (Transmission Substations)

About the role

AusNet is hiring a Senior Engineer, Secondary to join its Design Management team within Transmission, based in Southbank, Melbourne. You will deliver critical transmission substation projects across the network, applying expertise in protection and control systems to influence key engineering decisions and help deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective solutions. The role is permanent and full-time, with a flexible hybrid working arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Project engineering in a Transmission Design Management team, supporting customer and company-initiated projects across the transmission network.
• Apply protection and control technical engineering knowledge to complex design projects.
• Develop scopes and specifications for design and construction, and review brownfield and greenfield substation designs for staging, constructability, operability, maintainability and safety.
• Review protection schemes, control system designs and protection relay settings and configuration.
• Contribute to scopes and estimates for substation projects, including project schedules, risk registers and engineering input into commercial offers.
• Identify opportunities to improve standards and take ownership of process improvement initiatives and new methods.

Required profile

• Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive experience in electricity substation engineering, project delivery and/or design.
• Detailed technical knowledge of transmission secondary systems, focusing on protection and control.
• Understanding of project lifecycles and design and construction knowledge covering performance, operation, maintenance and risks.
• Ability to simplify complex engineering analysis for non-engineers.
• Proven ability to build relationships internally and with external suppliers, customers and regulators.
• Ability to coach, mentor and support colleagues.
• Professional Engineer registration in Victoria (RPEV), or eligibility to obtain it, is highly regarded; current driver's licence required.
