Senior Design Engineer

About the role

MPK Kinetic is looking for a Senior Design Engineer based in Toowoomba. The engineer leads the development and refinement of engineering solutions across a range of projects, overseeing the design process from concept through to completion so that products meet high standards of quality, functionality and reliability. The role involves close collaboration with product managers, manufacturers and other engineers to turn project requirements into detailed technical specifications and prototypes.

Key responsibilities

• Present creative and practical engineering design concepts
• Lead and manage the engineering and drafting team
• Coordinate design projects, make detailed plans and direct, review and approve product designs and changes
• Act as a trusted technical advisor and subject matter expert, keeping up to date through continuing professional development
• Coordinate project budgets, schedules and resources, and prepare cost analyses (AFE) for new products
• Manage schedules for engineering, design, drafting and fabrication, and coordinate with manufacturing to create prototypes and field-test equipment
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, procedures and standards, and carry out quality assurance checks and product certification
• Lead weekly engineering meetings and coach and develop team members
• Build relationships with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Business Development and Operations, and promote a safe, compliant workplace

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics
• RPEQ certification highly desirable
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in design and engineering
• Clear communicator with a proactive, results and timeline-driven approach
• Strong leadership and project management skills
• Experience in product quality and certification management
