Maintenance Electrician - Poultry Processing

About the role

Toowoomba Poultry, part of the Golden Cockerel group, is a family-owned poultry processing company established in 1973, with its processing plant in Toowoomba. The Maintenance Electrician reports to the Plant Manager and provides timely maintenance support to production teams and carries out general electrical maintenance across the facility. It is a full-time position, five days a week (8:00am to 4:06pm); overtime, weekends and occasional call-outs for electrical fault resolution may be required.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems, motors, control panels, conveyors, refrigeration units and automated processing equipment
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults to minimise production downtime
• Install and upgrade electrical wiring, fixtures and control systems in line with relevant codes and safety standards
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs and parts usage
• Take part in scheduled preventative maintenance programs
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures
• Assist in commissioning new equipment and systems, and respond to emergency breakdowns and after-hours maintenance as needed

Required profile

• Trade qualification as an electrician and a current electrical licence
• Experience in industrial or production facility maintenance, preferably in FMCG, food or poultry processing
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Willingness to work weekend shifts when required to meet production needs

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of PLCs, automation systems and electrical schematics
• Familiarity with a planned maintenance approach (MEX)
• HACCP, GMP and food safety standards knowledge is advantageous
