Senior Corporate Lawyer

About the role

Join Origin’s Retail Legal team as a Senior Corporate Lawyer, providing senior advisory support to the Retail and Origin Zero businesses with a focus on complex energy regulation and investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Retail business on complex energy regulatory matters and manage legal issues from regulatory incidents.
• Engage with regulators such as the Australian Energy Regulator and ACCC, providing clear, practical recommendations.
• Draft and review customer contracts and communications to ensure clarity and compliance.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory and policy changes and inform the business.
• Manage external legal advisers to ensure commercial, customer‑focused and cost‑effective support.
• Mentor junior lawyers within the team.

Required profile

• Admission as an Australian lawyer with 8–10+ years post‑admission experience.
• Strong knowledge of energy regulation, particularly retail energy regulations.
• Experience handling regulatory incidents and investigations with bodies like AER or ACCC.
• Sound judgement, practical solutions focus and ability to explain complex issues clearly.
• Strong influencing, stakeholder management and ability to manage competing deadlines.

Required skills

• Expertise in energy regulation and compliance.
• Experience drafting and reviewing contracts and customer communications.
• Ability to manage external counsel and regulatory relationships.
