Senior Accountant - Trade Services

About the role

A well-established, growing trade services business delivering residential and commercial work across the region is looking for a Senior Accountant in Newcastle. Reporting to senior leadership, the role sits at the heart of the finance function and works closely with operations to understand job profitability and working capital.

Key responsibilities

• End-to-end financial reporting and month-end close
• Prepare statutory accounts and management reports
• Budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management, including job costing and margin visibility
• Coordinate audit processes and work with external advisors
• Improve financial controls, processes and reporting
• Partner with operations to understand job profitability, labour utilisation and working capital
• Support commercial decision making and growth initiatives
• Prepare reporting and insights for the leadership team and board

Required profile

• CA qualified, or CPA qualified with solid experience in a blue-collar or trade-based business
• Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards (AASB/IFRS)
• Background in Big Four or business advisory highly regarded; commercial experience outside audit is essential
• Experience in trades, construction, field services, manufacturing or a similar operational environment is a strong advantage
• Comfortable working autonomously with broad responsibility, and a commercial mindset with ambition to progress into a Finance Manager role
• Newcastle-based and willing to work five days a week in the office
