Roads & Highways Designer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Designer – Roads & Highways to join SMEC’s transport team, delivering high‑quality road and highway projects across Australia. The role offers the chance to work on complex infrastructure, collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists and develop technical expertise in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed road and highway design outputs that meet technical standards, client requirements and SMEC quality expectations.
• Create drawings, 3‑D models and technical documentation using 12d and AutoCAD.
• Contribute to design reports, peer reviews and technical documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with Austroads guidelines, client specifications and HSEQ requirements.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated and timely project outcomes.
• Support engineers and senior designers in developing practical, compliant and cost‑effective solutions.

Required profile

• Commitment to delivering high‑quality, technically rigorous design solutions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 12d design software.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of Austroads standards and guidelines.
• Understanding of HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, Quality) requirements.
