About the role
The Commonwealth agency is seeking an experienced APS6 Project Manager to support a major national social policy program. This six‑month contract role will ensure strong alignment between strategy, evidence, reporting and senior leadership priorities across multiple inter‑dependent workstreams.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver end‑to‑end project management support, including scheduling, tracking, reporting and documentation.
- Assist senior project managers in coordinating multiple inter‑dependent workstreams.
- Maintain delivery rhythms such as agile ceremonies, reporting cycles and governance forums.
- Produce high‑quality briefings, strategy documents, dashboards and executive presentations.
- Monitor project data integrity and promptly escalate issues, risks or discrepancies.
- Map and analyse inter‑dependencies across workstreams to improve alignment and visibility.
- Develop and standardise reporting templates, tools and program artefacts.
- Support continuous improvement in project management practices and delivery maturity.
- Contribute to capability uplift through knowledge sharing and coaching of APS staff.
- Assist with structured transition and handover activities at contract completion.
Required profile
- Proven experience delivering complex, multi‑stream projects in the APS, consulting or similar environments.
- Strong understanding of Commonwealth governance frameworks, reporting requirements and delivery standards.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, timely, executive‑ready reporting outputs.
- Experience working in high‑pressure environments with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, Agile or hybrid models.
- Experience engaging with senior executives and supporting structured delivery governance.
- Ability to improve project delivery processes and uplift team capability.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships quickly.
- Coaching or mentoring experience in project management practices is highly regarded.
