Production Manager for Festival Events

About the role

The Sydney Writers’ Festival is seeking a Production Manager to lead the planning and delivery of production and operational requirements for the 2027 Festival and year‑round events. Reporting to the Head of Production and Operations, you will oversee technical delivery, logistics, budgets, contractors and event crew.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage production plans, technical specifications and logistical arrangements across multiple venues.
• Coordinate and supervise casual crew, contractors and suppliers to ensure seamless event execution.
• Track expenses, control costs and report on budget compliance.
• Contribute to Event Management Plans, risk assessments and incident management procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in event or festival production, venue operations or related field.
• Proven ability to lead production teams and manage complex, concurrent events.
• Strong time‑management, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations for large‑scale public events.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
• Working knowledge of CAD software, preferably Vectorworks.
• Experience with IT set‑ups, networks and live‑stream broadcasting (desirable).
