Principal/Senior Drainage Engineer

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal/Senior Drainage Engineer to join its Civil and Highways team in Adelaide. You will lead stormwater and drainage design across highways, building civil and Defence projects, delivering high‑quality outcomes for major infrastructure in South Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake stormwater design tasks on a range of highways, building civil and Defence projects.
• Manage delivery throughout the project lifecycle, accountable for scope, schedule, budget, quality and client outcomes.
• Provide technical design guidance, review processes and manage deliverables across civil projects.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to key clients such as the Department for Infrastructure and Transport and Adelaide Airport.
• Lead Safety in Design processes to embed safety considerations throughout design.
• Mentor and support the development of engineers and designers within the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• CPEng registration or demonstrated progress towards it.
• Strong knowledge of local and best‑practice stormwater and drainage standards.
• Experience delivering concept, tender and detailed design documentation for transport and civil projects.
• Well‑developed interpersonal skills with the ability to influence.

Required skills

• Stormwater and drainage design expertise.
• Proficiency with 12D and DRAINS software (preferred).
• Familiarity with Austroads guidelines for major projects.
