About the role
The Principal Strategic Urban Planner (Movement & Transport) will lead complex city‑shaping projects that influence how people move, connect and experience Melbourne. Combining strategic planning expertise with specialist transport knowledge, you will develop evidence‑based solutions to support sustainable growth and vibrant urban outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Lead complex strategic planning projects, including structure plans, precinct plans and city‑shaping initiatives.
- Develop land‑use strategies, planning policy and scheme amendments that integrate movement and transport considerations.
- Provide expert advice on transport networks, accessibility, travel behaviour and emerging mobility trends.
- Collaborate with government agencies, infrastructure providers, industry and community stakeholders to deliver integrated planning outcomes.
- Act as a trusted subject‑matter expert, building capability, mentoring colleagues and promoting best practice.
Required profile
- Relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning or a related discipline with substantial professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex strategic urban planning or policy projects.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sound understanding of land‑use planning, city‑shaping systems and movement/transport planning.
- Ability to build effective relationships across government, industry and community.

- Expertise in movement and transport planning, including transport networks, integrated land‑use and transport planning, accessibility, active and public transport systems, and emerging mobility trends.
