Principal Risk and Assurance Officer

About the role

QLeave, the statutory authority that administers portable long‑service‑leave schemes in Queensland, is seeking a Principal Risk and Assurance Officer. This 12‑month full‑time temporary role will lead the development and maturity of the organisation’s risk and assurance frameworks, strengthening first‑line risk ownership and establishing a modern second‑line assurance function.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the coordination, implementation and continuous improvement of enterprise risk management and assurance frameworks.
• Drive maturity of first‑line risk ownership and second‑line assurance practices across the organisation.
• Conduct risk‑based reviews of processes, operational activities and key controls to assess design, effectiveness and alignment with agreed frameworks.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders on risk identification, assessment, treatment and monitoring, and support the implementation of effective controls.
• Prepare high‑quality board and committee papers on enterprise risk management, assurance outcomes, emerging risk themes and control effectiveness.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in implementing or improving enterprise risk management, assurance or internal control frameworks.
• Proven ability to support first‑line risk ownership and assurance activities.
• Experience developing high‑quality reports, board papers or similar documentation with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively with leaders across the organisation and influence risk‑aware decision‑making.
