Principal Right to Information Officer (Flexible)

About the role

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is seeking a Principal Right to Information Officer to lead a dynamic RTI and privacy portfolio. You will work closely with the Manager to coordinate end‑to‑end processes, assess complex applications under the RTI Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009, and deliver clear, defensible decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and determine complex and sensitive RTI and privacy requests, exercising delegated decision‑making authority.
• Balance transparency with sound judgement while managing competing priorities and tight timelines.
• Provide clear notices and decisions, and drive consultations with internal teams, other government agencies and industry bodies.
• Support onboarding and knowledge sharing with newer team members.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working in a Right to Information environment within a government department.
• Proven ability to manage a busy portfolio while maintaining high quality outcomes.
• Strong time‑management, analytical and judgement skills.
• Excellent written communication, capable of drafting clear, defensible decisions.
• Collaborative mindset with a willingness to share expertise and receive feedback.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the RTI Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009.
• Experience in legislative interpretation and decision‑making.
