Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services)

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead building services engineering across a diverse portfolio of major projects in Sydney. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, safe, and compliant electrical solutions for sectors such as health, defence, transport, data centres, and sports facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex electrical systems, ensuring safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
• Act as senior technical authority, reviewing and guiding electrical design, installation strategies and system integration.
• Oversee multiple projects concurrently, balancing technical rigor with programme delivery and client expectations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate lighting, power distribution, fire and life safety, and low‑voltage systems into overall building services.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional development.

Required profile

• 12+ years of electrical engineering experience in building services consultancy, senior contracting or government roles.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and RPEV/RPEQ registration preferred.
• Deep knowledge of Australian Standards, building codes and electrical systems.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for mentoring engineers.
• Australian citizenship preferred; defence clearance highly regarded.
