Principal Communications Officer

About the role
The Principal Communications Officer will lead the development and delivery of complex communication strategies for Forensic Science Queensland, supporting the organisation’s priorities and stakeholder engagement. This senior role requires high autonomy, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage high‑profile initiatives across the department.
Key responsibilities
- Exercise autonomy and independent judgement in creating strategic communications approaches for complex issues and emerging priorities.
- Provide high‑level strategic communications advice to senior executives and project leads on high‑profile FSQ matters.
- Lead and coordinate major communications initiatives, programs or campaigns with significant organisational impact.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships to deliver innovative, cost‑effective, and targeted communications solutions.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate communication strategies across traditional and digital channels, including social media, website creation and maintenance, and event management.
- Manage correspondence, prepare briefing materials, and keep senior leaders updated on milestones, outcomes and issues.
- Ensure all communication materials comply with Queensland Government branding and corporate identity guidelines.
- Provide whole‑of‑government liaison and reporting on administrative and policy requirements.
- Contribute positively to organisational culture and staff engagement strategies.
Required profile
- High level of autonomy and independent judgement.
- Proven experience advising senior executives on strategic communications.
- Ability to lead major initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
- Strong collaborative and relationship‑building skills.
- Familiarity with Queensland Government branding and corporate identity guidelines.
