Principal Civil Engineer – Infrastructure Design & Delivery

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead and deliver multi‑disciplinary civil infrastructure projects across NSW. Based in Sydney, you will work on defence, transport, rail, energy, land development and stormwater schemes, shaping client relationships and driving business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, budgeting and programme delivery for civil infrastructure projects, ensuring technical quality and design management.
• Develop and maintain senior client relationships across defence, government, transport agencies and private developers.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage project risks, and uphold design governance and quality standards.
• Support business development activities, including opportunity identification, capture planning and proposal preparation.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the strategic direction of AECOM’s civil engineering practice in NSW.

Required profile

• 10+ years post‑graduate experience in civil and site infrastructure design with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior clients.
• Commercial acumen to manage scope, quality and budgets within tight timeframes.
• Eligibility for Australian security clearance (preferred).

Required skills

• Proficiency in DRAINS, 12D and AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of Austroads standards and local authority specifications.
• Understanding of Australian civil engineering and infrastructure standards; defence project experience is a plus.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) designation or equivalent accreditation.
