Primary Special Education Teacher (Ongoing) – Adelaide West

About the role

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Classroom Primary Special Education Teacher to lead a primary classroom at Adelaide West Special Education Centre. The role involves designing engaging, personalised and inclusive learning programs that respond to each student’s strengths, interests, communication needs and developmental levels.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate differentiated learning aligned with curriculum requirements, using explicit teaching, hands‑on activities, purposeful play and real‑life experiences.
• Develop and review meaningful One Plan goals, utilise visuals, symbols, AAC and assistive technologies, and implement Ready to Learn Plans, health care plans and risk‑management processes.
• Create a safe, structured, stimulating and accessible classroom with predictable routines and high expectations.
• Use assessment, observation and student data to monitor progress and guide future teaching.
• Provide clear direction to classroom support staff and collaborate with families, SSOs, teachers, leadership and allied health professionals.

Required profile

• Recognised teaching qualification and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia.
• Experience in primary or special education, sound curriculum knowledge and effective behaviour support.
• Strong communication, organisational skills and a commitment to student dignity, safety, inclusion and growing independence.

Required skills

• Use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and assistive technologies.
• Development of individualized education plans and implementation of health and risk‑management plans.
