Payroll Operations Specialist

About the role

Johnson Controls is seeking a Payroll Operations Specialist to join its ANZ Payroll team. Reporting to the Payroll Manager and supporting two Payroll Officers, the role plays a key part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across the group.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day payroll operational support so employees are paid accurately and on time
• Maintain and update payroll process documentation, checklists and calendars
• Ensure statutory and non-statutory payments are processed accurately and on schedule
• Maintain data integrity in payroll systems and comply with country-specific requirements
• Administer payroll processes, including data collection, calculation and entry
• Prepare summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, insurance and non-taxable wages
• Resolve payroll discrepancies and perform reconciliations
• Support month-end and year-end payroll processes
• Ensure accurate and timely submission of Single Touch Payroll / Pay Day Filing
• Manage payroll and employee master file records
• Liaise with third-party vendors and respond promptly to employee payroll queries
• Assist with payroll system migration projects and ad-hoc tasks, and stay up to date on regulatory changes

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years' experience in payroll or HR operations
• Background in unionized environments
• Bachelor's degree in HR, Finance, Business or a related field
• Right to work in Australia
• Pre-employment checks (references, medical, criminal record, drug and alcohol testing) apply

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of interpreting Awards and EBAs
• Experience with payroll systems such as Chris21, Ramco, Workday or MS CRM Dynamics
• Payroll certification preferred
• Attention to detail, time management and communication skills
