Payroll Officer

About the role

The Payroll Officer supports accurate, timely and compliant payroll delivery across Australia and New Zealand, reporting to the Director HR – ANZ and working closely with HR, Finance and an external payroll provider.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate weekly, monthly and out‑of‑cycle payroll cycles with the external provider, validating inputs such as new hires, terminations, remuneration changes and leave.
• Review payroll outputs, investigate discrepancies, maintain payroll records in HiNext and SAP, and ensure secure handling of confidential information.
• Respond to employee payroll enquiries, support managers with timesheet and roster issues, and act as the primary contact for the external payroll provider.
• Assist with PAYG withholding, payroll tax, superannuation and other statutory obligations, and provide data for internal and external audits.
• Monitor data integrity across payroll systems, prepare routine reports, and contribute to process‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualification in payroll, accounting, finance, HR or related discipline (desirable).
• Experience supporting end‑to‑end payroll in a complex organisation and knowledge of Australian payroll legislation.
• Experience working with an outsourced payroll provider and, preferably, New Zealand payroll requirements.

Required skills

• Strong capability with payroll systems and integrated HR/time‑management platforms.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel for data validation and analysis.
• Experience with SAP, HiNext or Workday and outsourced payroll platforms.
• Understanding of payroll controls, data privacy and audit evidence.
