Pastoral Care Volunteer - Home Visits, Blacktown

About the role

HammondCare is an independent Christian charity that supports people to stay in their own homes and maintain their independence. It is looking for a Pastoral Care Volunteer to visit an elderly client living at home in Blacktown. The volunteer works alongside the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator and complements their work. The client is interested in reading the Bible together, praying together, singing hymns and serving communion.

Key responsibilities

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development
• Visit the client regularly, for example weekly or fortnightly, depending on availability
• Supplement the work of the Pastoral Care Coordinator under their direction

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older
• Previous work in a shirt factory
• Interested in cricket, football and cowboy movies
• Willing to complete a one-hour visit between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday

Required skills

• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral Care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to attend HammondCare pastoral care training
• Spiritual Care Series in preparation to become a pastoral care volunteer
