About the role
HammondCare is looking for a pastoral care volunteer to offer gentle companionship to an elderly gentleman living in his home with his granddaughter and great-grandchildren. The volunteer works alongside the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator and complements their work. The volunteer is actively involved with a local Christian church and offers a listening ear, shared faith and a moment of quiet fellowship.
Key responsibilities
- Support the client to meet his spiritual needs
- Nurture his spiritual development
- Offer one-on-one time for a cuppa and a chat, and quiet Bible reading or prayer
- Visit between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday; visits can be weekly or fortnightly depending on availability
Required profile
- 18 years or older
- A National Volunteer Police Check, arranged and paid for by HammondCare
- High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
- Pastoral care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to complete HammondCare pastoral care training and the Spiritual Care Series
