Pastoral Care Volunteer - Aged Care Home, Darlinghurst

About the role

HammondCare is looking for pastoral care volunteers to support the spiritual and emotional needs of elderly people living in its residential aged care home in Darlinghurst. As a volunteer you will be a Christian actively involved with a local Christian church, offering comfort, presence and hope. You will complement the work of the Residential Pastoral Care Coordinator and work under their direction.

Key responsibilities

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development
• Assist with worship services, Bible studies and other faith-supporting activities

Required profile

• Active Christian involved with a local Christian church in the area
• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral Care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to attend HammondCare pastoral care training
• Completion of the Spiritual Care Series, in preparation for becoming a pastoral care volunteer
• 18 years or older; NDIS screening and orientation are arranged and paid for by HammondCare

Suitable times are available on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, 2 hours per week or fortnightly between 9am and 4pm. The site is not eligible for Centrelink-approved volunteering and cannot be used for Centrelink volunteer hour sign-off. Interested applicants are contacted by phone or text, then by email if needed.
