Part-Time Surgery Vet Nurse (Maternity Leave Cover)

About the role

A part-time Surgery Vet Nurse is needed at ARH Essendon to cover a nurse's 12-month maternity leave. The position is three days per week for 12 months, supporting the surgical team and ensuring the highest standard of care for surgical patients.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in pre-operative and post-operative care
• Monitor patients during surgery and recovery
• Collaborate with the surgical team to keep workflow smooth and efficient
• Administer medications and follow established protocols
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
• Provide education and support to patients and their families

Required profile

• Cert IV qualified nurse
• At least 2 years' experience in veterinary surgical nursing
• Strong understanding of surgical procedures and protocols
• Excellent patient care skills, including pre- and post-operative management
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work with pet owners and veterinary staff
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once

Required skills

• Anaesthesia monitoring
• Sterile technique
• Familiarity with veterinary medical equipment and surgical instruments, including their maintenance and sterilisation
