ECC Nurse Assistant - ARH Essendon

About the role

The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) Essendon Fields, a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week hospital covering Emergency Care and Critical Care (ECC), Internal Medicine and Surgery, is looking for a part-time ECC Nurse Assistant. The role is casual or permanent, about 20 hours per week on weekdays and occasionally weekends, with availability over the Christmas and New Year period.

Key responsibilities

• Assist veterinary nurses and veterinarians as required
• Monitor and care for hospitalized patients under the guidance of the ECC team
• Administer medications as directed by the ECC team
• Keep hospital facilities clean and hygienic, including floors in treatment, ICU and ward spaces, and maintain daily laundry upkeep
• Handle and restrain animals gently and compassionately
• Clean and re-set animal cages, clean patient bowls and walk, feed and offer water to patients under nurse instruction
• Restock disposables such as needles and syringes and pharmacy stock

Required profile

• Completed or currently enrolled in Cert IV in Vet Nursing, Associate Degree of Vet Nursing or Bachelor's Degree of Vet Nursing
• Previous experience in the animal care industry highly desirable
• Adaptable and enthusiastic, with excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to handle animals with gentleness and confidence
