Operations Training Manager – Mining & Drilling

About the role

The Operations Training Manager (Mining and Drilling) will design, implement and manage technical and operational training programmes to build workforce capability, ensure compliance and support safe, efficient operations across our expanding global footprint.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the Group operational training and competency framework, including matrices, assessments, evidence and trainer/assessor requirements.
• Manage mandatory and technical training compliance, competency reporting and corrective action planning.
• Develop and drive Operational Training Action Plans to close competency gaps and improve operational capability.
• Coordinate deployment of Technical Trainers and L&D Coordinators for project mobilisations, ramp‑ups and remediation.
• Provide functional leadership to trainers and assessors, setting standards and monitoring performance.
• Lead L&D digitisation initiatives such as LMS strategy, Competency360, Power BI dashboards and mobile assessment tools.
• Manage external training providers and technical certification programmes (e.g., AMPT/IACA, TAFE, NEBOSH, Cambridge Supply Chain).
• Support national workforce development and localisation through structured capability pathways.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years combined operational and training experience in mining, drilling or heavy‑industry.
• At least 4 years hands‑on drilling or mining site experience.
• At least 4 years experience in training, assessment or training management in an operational environment.
• TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) required.
• RII40920 Certificate IV in Drilling Operations (preferred) and NEBOSH International General Certificate (desirable).
