Operations Engineer – RF Specialist

About the role

Motorola Solutions is seeking an Operations Engineer with RF expertise to support the P25 radio system for Victorian Metropolitan and Regional Mobile Radio networks. The role involves technical operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of RF and microwave infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and operate P25 system subsystems, including RF, microwave links, and connectivity to telecom providers.
• Provide RF technical subject‑matter expertise, support upgrades, and act as escalation point for NOC and field engineers.
• Create and implement change, problem, and knowledge management procedures for routine maintenance.
• Develop and audit as‑built documentation, perform network testing, integration, and certification of RF performance.
• Participate in 24x7 on‑call roster, supporting core systems, consoles, firewalls, routers, switches, and servers both physical and virtual.

Required profile

• Tertiary engineering qualification with extensive telecommunications experience in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and microwave propagation.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work under mission‑critical conditions.
• Self‑motivated team player capable of prioritising multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.

Required skills

• RF engineering and coverage prediction (e.g., Motorola Voyager tools, TSB‑88 methodology).
• Experience with digital LMR systems such as Motorola P25.
• Microwave transmission and propagation prediction tools.
• Spectrum measurement and analysis equipment.
• Network device configuration – firewalls, routers, switches, servers (physical and virtual).
