Ombudsman – Investments and Advice

About the role

AFCA is seeking an Ombudsman to join its Investments and Advice decision‑making team, handling both standard and complex disputes across a wide range of financial services.

Key responsibilities

• Make impactful decisions individually or as part of a panel in line with AFCA rules and fairness principles.
• Provide professional and technical leadership, coaching and mentoring case workers and junior staff.
• Represent AFCA with consumer groups, regulators, member organisations, other Ombudsman networks and the media.
• Shape AFCA’s approaches and present as a subject‑matter expert at external conferences.

Required profile

• Legal qualifications with senior executive experience.
• Experience in at least one area such as financial planning, stockbroking, managed funds, cryptocurrency, or derivatives.
• Background in tribunals, EDR schemes, regulatory agencies, related business entities, or private practice.
• Strong analytical, communication and resilience skills to manage complex caseloads and public scrutiny.
