National Account Manager (PPE & Safety Wear)

About the role
PORTWEST, a global leader in safety wear, workwear and PPE, is seeking a National Account Manager to drive growth of its key national accounts across Australia. Reporting to the Sales Leadership Team, you will act as the primary liaison between customer head‑offices, internal teams and the field sales force to secure and manage large‑scale contracts and tenders.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and develop day‑to‑day relationships with assigned national account partners at head‑office level.
- Create and execute joint business plans aligned with PORTWEST’s strategic objectives.
- Negotiate national trading agreements, including pricing, rebates, freight and service levels.
- Lead and support large‑scale end‑user tenders and contract opportunities, coordinating submissions and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, product, finance and operations teams to deliver customer programs.
- Provide national marketing and promotional planning for key accounts.
- Support field sales teams in executing national agreements and pricing structures.
- Analyse SKU performance, identify growth opportunities and contribute to national range reviews.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, account plans and tender pipelines.
- Represent PORTWEST at conferences, trade days and customer events.
Required profile
- Proven experience in national account management, business development or key‑account sales within the PPE industry.
- Strong background in commercial negotiations, trading agreements and rebate management.
- Deep understanding of tender management and end‑user contract processes.
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with sales, operations, marketing and finance.
- Analytical mindset with experience interpreting sales and SKU performance data.
- Willingness to travel across Australia as required.
Required skills
- Proficiency with CRM systems
- Experience using reporting tools
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
