Merchandise Assistant - Dog and Cat Food Category

About the role

Petbarn's Dog and Cat Food category team is looking for a Merchandise Assistant or Buyer's Assistant to join its growing food category. Reporting to the Assistant Category Manager, the role suits someone who is organised, detail-focused and eager to grow in specialty retail buying. It is a highly administrative and analytical position, working closely with the Category Manager and internal stakeholders on product, range, reporting and supplier activity.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain product and range files, keeping data accurate and up to date
• Support the preparation of brand presentations, sales reports and category performance analysis
• Assist with range review analysis and supplier promotional plans
• Provide administrative support to the Category team as required
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Stores, Supply Chain, Marketing and Space Planning

Required profile

• At least two years' experience in product administration support, Merchandise Assistant or Buyer's Assistant
• Experience in a fast-paced retail support office environment
• Genuine passion for specialty retail, products and pets
• Strong attention to detail, organisation and analytical capability
• Ability to multitask, manage priorities and work with multiple stakeholders
• Positive, collaborative attitude and desire to progress into a future buying role

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced Excel, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables
• Experience preparing reports, analysing data and creating graphs
• Strong communication skills and confidence working with suppliers, stores and support office teams
