Manager, Positions & Appointments

About the role

The Manager, Positions & Appointments leads the service that creates new roles, appoints staff and oversees onboarding across Macquarie University Group. Reporting to the Head of HR Shared Services, you will shape end‑to‑end processes, technology and data quality to deliver a seamless experience for new starters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead continuous improvement of position establishment and appointment services, ensuring efficiency and a positive staff experience.
• Build, develop and manage a high‑performing team, handling work allocation, capability development and performance management.
• Provide operational oversight, escalating risks and informing decision‑making for HR services.
• Maintain high data quality, produce reports and dashboards to support client visibility and planning.
• Manage technology solutions (e.g., Workday), defining requirements, testing changes and upgrades.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading HR operations or shared‑services teams in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of position establishment, appointments, onboarding and related employee‑lifecycle services.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to balance competing priorities.
• Understanding of relevant employment frameworks, EEO and WHS obligations.

Required skills

• Technical competency with HRIS or workflow technology (Workday or equivalent).
• Process and systems design experience, using data and performance metrics for service improvement.
• Ability to develop service performance standards and reporting against metrics.
