Job description

About the role

Economic Crime Risk (ECR) sits within CBA's Risk Management function and protects the Group, customers and the community from financial crime, fraud and scams. The ECR Model Risk & Governance team ensures Financial Crime and Fraud models are governed, monitored and compliant with the Group Model Risk Management Framework. Reporting to the Executive Manager, ECR Model Risk & Governance, you will lead model risk and governance across all ECR-owned models, acting as the day-to-day link between model owners, developers, validators and the central governance teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate, current view of all ECR-owned Financial Crime and Fraud models, keeping Group Model Register records complete and up to date
  • Coordinate governance activities such as fit-for-purpose reviews, risk assessments, performance monitoring, validations and approvals
  • Ensure models comply with the Group framework and that required controls are executed and evidenced
  • Track open model risk findings and drive timely closure with model owners
  • Work with model owners, developers and validators on validations, reviews and remediation
  • Facilitate governance sessions with senior stakeholders, prepare papers and track decisions and actions
  • Build and maintain dashboards (e.g. Power BI) on model estate health, findings and performance, and turn technical outcomes into clear insights for leadership and committees
  • Support internal audit, assurance and regulatory reviews with audit-ready outputs
  • Build governance maturity: consistent rhythms, templates, documentation, playbooks, checklists and SOPs, and escalate issues early
  • Represent the team in working groups and forums and support the Executive Manager

Required profile

  • Exposure to model governance, model risk, model validation or risk and control roles, ideally in financial services
  • Understanding of Financial Crime and/or Fraud (e.g. transaction monitoring, customer risk assessment, screening)
  • Experience working with model owners, developers, validators and governance teams
  • Confidence presenting papers and challenging constructively
  • Tertiary qualification in a quantitative, risk or related discipline, and/or financial crime credentials such as CAMS

Required skills

  • Basic data science knowledge: model performance measures (precision, recall, false positives), drift and stability, and reading model documentation
  • Power BI or similar dashboarding tools
  • Familiarity with CBA (or equivalent) Model Risk Management frameworks and the Group Model Register
  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or Python
