Lifeguard - Sleeman Sports Complex

About the role

The Lifeguard position supervises all users of the Aquatic Centre at Sleeman Sports Complex, ensuring safety and presentation standards and providing high-quality customer service and event-related assistance to patrons and hirers. It is a casual, continuous applicant pool position based in the Aquatics team, reporting to the Aquatic Manager and Aquatic Supervisor, with some responsibility for supervising other casual lifeguards and occasional duty as Chief Fire Warden. Work includes weekends, early mornings and evenings, and may involve travel between venues.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise aquatic facilities, observe pools and patrons and respond to emergencies
• Provide first aid and administer CPR, coordinating emergency services when needed
• Conduct rostered pool tests and maintenance to comply with Health Department regulations
• Perform delegated maintenance and cleaning duties
• Support the Aquatic Manager and team in event delivery
• Maintain mandatory qualifications and fitness, and follow SQ policies on health and safety and equal employment opportunity

Required profile

• Lifeguard certification including HLTAID009, HLTAID010, HLTAID011, SISCAQU002, SISCAQU006, SISCAQU007, PUAEME001 and PUAEME003
• Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain one
• Ability to dive to 5 metres and swim 200m in under 6 minutes, with a 25m swim and casualty tow in under 2 minutes 30 seconds
• Pre-placement medical assessment required unless already a current SQ employee
• Experience in a lifeguard role and high-level customer service skills

Required skills

• Ability to stay calm and apply lifesaving techniques under pressure
• Ability to work in a team
• Desirable: knowledge of workplace health and safety, Pool Plant Operations certification and Hepatitis A immunisation
