Legal Research Officer (ASO5) – Parliament of South Australia

About the role

The Parliament of South Australia is seeking a qualified Legal Research Officer (ASO5) to join the Parliament Research Library. This full‑time role supports Members of Parliament by delivering impartial, confidential legal and general research in a non‑partisan environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, accurate legal research, briefing notes and written guidance to Members and their staff.
• Produce research reports that inform parliamentary debate and decision‑making.
• Maintain and develop the Library’s legal collections.
• Staff the reference desk, assisting users with library resources.
• Deliver training and ongoing support on information services.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of research and information delivery.

Required profile

• Legally qualified professional with a law degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Strong analytical, research and written communication skills.
• Ability to work impartially and maintain confidentiality under changing priorities.
• Experience in a legal, research or information‑services setting.
• Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with parliamentary staff.

Required skills

• Proficiency with legal databases.
• Familiarity with legislative material and parliamentary information sources.
