Legal Officer

About the role

Crime and Intelligence Legal Services is looking for an experienced lawyer to join the Queensland Police Service legal team. You will provide specialist legal advice on complex criminal, civil and administrative matters and support investigations into serious and organised crime.

Key responsibilities

• Provide written and verbal advice to investigators and senior officers on legal issues related to serious and organised crime.
• Draft legal documents such as warrants, affidavits and other court filings.
• Represent the Queensland Police Service in court proceedings, including applications for covert warrants.
• Assist senior officers during interviews and compile investigative reports with recommendations.
• Prepare and submit complex administrative reports concerning covert warrants and maintain warrant records.
• Liaise with external bodies including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and other government agencies.
• Contribute to the design and delivery of legal training programs for major crime investigations.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a national security clearance.
• Willingness to work with graphic and sensitive material and to be deployed to locations as directed by the Legal Division.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of criminal, civil and administrative law.
• Experience drafting legal documents and providing courtroom representation.
• Ability to interpret and apply police powers and legislation.
• Excellent analytical and report‑writing abilities.
