Legal Counsel – Regulatory & Disputes

About the role

Join Rest, a leading member‑first superannuation fund, as a Legal Counsel focused on regulatory and dispute matters. You will provide in‑house legal advice to business units, the Board and senior management, helping the organisation navigate complex regulatory environments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear legal advice on regulatory reporting and notification obligations.
• Guide the business on legislative, regulatory and licensing requirements, including representative conduct.
• Support regulator engagements and correspondence with ASIC and APRA.
• Manage regulator‑initiated disputes and litigation, working with external counsel as needed.
• Offer timely, practical advice to leaders to support strategic decisions.
• Monitor regulatory change, brief stakeholders and contribute to industry forums.
• Review project documents, communications and policy updates for legal compliance.
• Prepare Board and Committee papers and provide legal input at executive forums.
• Build capability through legal training, knowledge sharing and promoting a strong WHS/safety culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws or equivalent, admitted in an Australian jurisdiction with a current practising certificate.
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably within financial services or superannuation.
• Strong analytical, research and commercial acumen with the ability to assess legal and risk implications.
• In‑depth knowledge of superannuation law and trustee obligations.
• Proficiency in clear, plain‑English legal drafting.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
• Experience handling litigated claims.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
