Legal Counsel – Film & Entertainment

About the role

Join one of Australia’s leading independent film distributors and production companies as the sole in‑house Legal Counsel. You will work directly with the Managing Director and General Manager, providing commercial legal advice and supporting film acquisitions, distribution, and production activities.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including licensing, distribution and acquisition contracts.
• Provide practical legal advice on commercial, corporate and operational matters.
• Manage intellectual property, copyright and rights‑management activities.
• Coordinate external legal advisers for specialist matters.
• Maintain legal documentation, contract administration systems and internal legal processes.
• Support production‑related legal issues and future film financing activities.
• Partner with senior leadership to identify and mitigate commercial risk.

Required profile

• Australian‑qualified lawyer with at least 3 years post‑qualification experience in commercial law (private practice or in‑house).
• Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience.
• Knowledge of intellectual property and copyright law.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
• Solution‑focused approach and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
