Legal Counsel – Commercial & Corporate Law

About the role

Western Power is looking for a Legal Counsel to provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice that supports the organisation’s strategic objectives. The role involves navigating legal risk, strengthening compliance and enabling informed decision‑making across operational, commercial and corporate matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide trusted legal advice on a diverse range of operational, commercial and corporate issues.
• Build strong partnerships with stakeholders and deliver practical solutions that balance compliance with business goals.
• Support major strategic initiatives with timely risk assessments and recommendations.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, commercial arrangements and other legal documentation.
• Lead and coordinate external legal advisers to ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality outcomes.
• Identify opportunities to improve legal services, processes and knowledge‑sharing.
• Deliver training and coaching on legal, governance and compliance matters.

Required profile

• Admitted legal practitioner with a current practising certificate and tertiary qualifications in law from a recognised common‑law jurisdiction.
• Strong experience providing commercially focused advice in energy, commercial contracting, construction, compliance, employment, property or dispute resolution.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into plain English.
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing abilities.
• Organised, adaptable and solutions‑focused with the capacity to manage competing priorities.
