Lawyer – Public Law – Governance, Procurement & Probity

About the role

Maddocks is seeking confident and enthusiastic early‑career lawyers to join its Public Law – Governance, Procurement and Probity team in Canberra. You will work with Commonwealth government departments and agencies, providing pragmatic, solutions‑focused advice on major procurement and grant projects that have real‑world impact.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on procurement, grants, and related public‑sector spending processes.
• Draft and interpret statutes, contracts and policy documents for high‑profile government projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with probity and integrity standards.

Required profile

• Admission to legal practice in Australia (or ability to obtain a government security clearance).
• Strong interest in public‑sector affairs and a track record of collaborative teamwork.
• Excellent communication, attention to detail and ability to handle complex, sensitive matters.

Required skills

• Legal drafting and statutory interpretation.
• Understanding of probity, integrity and governance principles in the public sector.
