Legal Associate – Federal Court Chambers

About the role

The Associate supports a Federal Court Judge in the day‑to‑day management of chambers and court operations. This role involves supervising a Deputy Associate, handling enquiries, and ensuring efficient docket management.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily chambers activities and respond to internal and external enquiries.
• Supervise the Deputy Associate and coordinate their workload.
• Prepare and manage matters awaiting hearing, including docket updates.
• Conduct legal research, summarise legislation and authorities, and maintain research materials.
• Enter case data into the Court’s management system to reflect outcomes of court events.
• Prepare case summaries, maintain files, and assist with judgment drafting and editing.
• Perform other duties as required to support the Judge and court functions.

Required profile

• Completed or near‑completed law qualification with a strong academic record.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• High level of accuracy, diligence, and ability to work within a small team.
• Strong ethical standards and ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
