Lawyer – Support Survivors in Redress Schemes (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Knowmore is seeking a compassionate lawyer to provide legal information, advice and assistance to survivors of institutional child sexual abuse and Stolen Generations. This 12‑month fixed‑term role focuses on helping clients navigate complex redress schemes with care, respect and dignity.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accurate legal advice to clients considering or progressing applications under the National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme.
• Collaborate with social work, financial counselling, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement teams to ensure holistic, culturally safe support.
• Prepare and review legal documents, correspondence and application materials.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of redress legislation, administrative law and relevant human‑rights frameworks.
• Provide trauma‑informed support, building trust with clients experiencing distress.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a genuine commitment to survivor‑centred practice.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work sensitively with people experiencing trauma.
• Experience in redress, personal injury, human rights, administrative law, community legal services or First Nations justice issues is highly regarded.
• Demonstrated empathy, sound judgement and cultural humility.

Required skills

• Understanding of redress scheme processes and relevant legislation.
