Laboratory Technician – Genomic Diagnostics

About the role

QML Pathology, part of Healius, is recruiting a Laboratory Technician for its Diagnostic Genomics QLD team in the Genetics laboratory in Murarrie. The department offers a comprehensive genomic service. The position is full-time (about 76 hours per fortnight) and may require working shifts between 6am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday, including a weekend on-call roster where required.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, culture and harvest post-natal/constitutional, haematology-oncology and/or prenatal samples using conventional cytogenetic, FISH and/or microarray technology
• Perform DNA extractions
• Support all genomic disciplines as required
• Maintain current scientific knowledge
• Take part in routine and audit-related quality assurance activities
• Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of new assays
• Liaise with referring practitioners about test results or referrals
• Comply with QML Pathology policies, workplace health and safety procedures and quality assurance processes

Required profile

• Diploma or equivalent
• Established experience in genomic testing, including molecular, conventional, FISH and microarray technologies for all tissue types, is desirable
• Commitment to quality and adherence to policies and procedures
• Strong time management, communication and organisational skills, and attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to cope in a busy environment and self-initiative
• Right to work in Australia; employment may be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment
