Laboratory Assistant - Specimen Reception

About the role

Healius is recruiting a Laboratory Assistant for its specimen reception, responsible for the accurate and efficient processing of pathology specimens so they are correctly registered, handled and dispatched for testing. The role supports turnaround times and reliable diagnostic results. It involves a 24/7 roster with various shifts between Monday and Sunday and public holidays as required.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, check and process specimens with a high level of accuracy
• Complete data entry and register specimens in laboratory systems
• Prepare and dispatch specimens to core laboratories within required timeframes
• Manage enquiries by phone and shared mailboxes, escalating where required
• Coordinate urgent specimen handling and courier collections
• Maintain laboratory records, storage and filing processes
• Take part in routine quality activities and follow laboratory procedures
• Ensure compliance with WHS policies and keep a safe working environment

Required profile

• Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential; a certificate in pathology or a certificate/diploma in laboratory skills is also desirable but not essential
• A background in healthcare, data entry or roles requiring high accuracy and attention to detail is highly regarded
• Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
• Effective communication, teamwork and comfort in busy environments
